Grandpa Jerry's weekend started out like this...

“It’s been a lousy day and I probably shouldn’t have even come this weekend. My house got broken into today while I was at work and I had to leave it a mess.”
Due to recent layoffs at work and the holiday weekend, Grandpa had to go into work that morning to get things finished prior to leaving for the quick weekend. He was given a new assignment to deal with payroll and spent the morning trying to figure it all out. When it was about time for lunch, he had the offer to go to lunch but decided he better just work straight through to make sure he got everything done. (So now he is hungry too). When he finally finished his long day at work, he hurried home to where he would have a couple hours to relax prior to leaving to the airport. He had already packed and put his luggage by the door. To his wonder, when he went to open the door when he got home, it was unlocked. He opened it to find all of his kitchen cabinets open and the place a mess—He had been burglarized!
The perpetrators had taken the screen off the kitchen window and jimmied it open to let themselves in. They ransacked the house. Grandpa quickly went through the house and found it a complete mess. Every cupboard, closet, drawer gone through. “In my bedroom they even lifted the mattress to see if I was hiding anything there, and my drawer full of garments—hope they enjoyed that!”
Grandpa called 911 to report the break in only to be told that this was not the number to call for that and they would transfer him to the police department. Once he got transferred he was told, “Oh, you live in White City? We don’t handle their calls, hold on, we’ll transfer you.” He was finally able to talk to someone to report his problem and told them that he had to catch a flight out of town very shortly. He was told they would come over, but if he had to leave, someone would have to be there with a key to allow the police to enter.
He called the people he had asked to watch the house while he was gone to see if they could come over. They didn’t answer the phone. (Steve suggested he fire them—they obviously weren’t doing a good job of watching the house!) He then called his next option—she was home, but her husband had the car so they couldn’t come. Grandpa’s last option was to call his friend Dave, but he was to be taking Grandpa to the airport, so that wouldn’t work. All he could do was wait for the police.
Grandpa decided he should go check his mail to see if they even stole that. His front door was wide open, so he didn’t even have to open it to go check. From what he could tell, all his mail was there, at least they left the power bill. He went back in, got his letter opener and started going through the mail.
The knock at the door was the police, with his mail and knife-like-letter-opener he went to answer it. He was not thinking too clearly as he waved his letter opener around while explaining what he found. Fortunately the police ignored it and began searching and asking questions. From what Grandpa could see, in his hour long tunnel vision, his TVs had been stolen, his HDMI cable, change in his dresser, and most importantly his laptop and prized camera that was only a couple months old were taken right out of his carry on bag he had previously packed. He was not happy at all about that.
The police finished up in a reasonable amount of time and Grandpa was able to get to the airport to check in. The process went fine until he got to the security gate. He had removed his shoes and belt, but sounded off the alarm as he walked through. He got the motion to step aside for a more thorough check. He got the wand. They turned him around and sticking out of his back pocket was his favorite letter opener! “I don’t believe you can take this on the plane with you, Sir, I’ll need to get my Supervisor.” Grandpa now remembered the police officer standing in front of the drawer in the kitchen when he was going to put the letter opener away and instead stashed it in the back pocket of his pants. The airport security returned stating, “You can’t take it with you, but if you would like to mail it back to yourself, we have an envelope for you.” Grandpa declined, what was the use at this point. At least he didn’t get arrested.
So next time you see Grandpa Jerry, be sure to ask him what's in his back pocket!
