Ever wonder why we have Leap Year?

Leap years are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the earth's revolutions around the sun. The vernal equinox is the time when the sun is directly above the Earth's equator, moving from the southern to the northern hemisphere. The mean time between two successive vernal equinoxes is called a tropical year–also known as a solar year–and is about 365.2422 days long. Using a calendar with 365 days every year would result in a loss of 0.2422 days, or almost six hours per year. After 100 years, this calendar would be more than 24 days ahead of the season (tropical year), which is not desirable or accurate. It is desirable to align the calendar with the seasons and to make any difference as insignificant as possible. By adding a leap year approximately every fourth year, the difference between the calendar and the seasons can be reduced significantly, and the calendar will align with the seasons much more accurately. Happiness is...

...a new booster seat that uses the regular car seat belts! Kendyl has finally hit the weight and height requirements to use the regular seat belts--Yay! She is so happy about her new booster, she has been begging me to let her go sit in the car just so she can practice buckling and unbuckling. :)

...a new carseat cover, sorry, a new "Cheetah Girl" carseat cover! Not to be left out after big sister got a new booster, we appeased Brityn by getting her a new cover for her carseat. She has been very happy sitting in her new "Cheetah seat" and cried yesterday when it was time to get out of the car and go in the house.

Are you serious?

I love my 2-year-old! During the last week, she has taken up this pose when talking to me, or rather instructing me why she needs this, that or the other. I have no idea where she learned this from, but she's just so stinking cute it makes me laugh! Also, she has taken over saying ALL prayers. At meal time we often have 2 prayers because both girls are fighting over who gets to say it (if they're going to fight, at least it is over this, right?). I do give her credit for saying it correctly all by herself, although I have tried prompting her to say more than just the basic things. I used to get tired of saying every other prayer when it was just Steve and I, now I miss having a turn!

Eclipse

Steve took the telescope outside last Thursday night to view the eclipse. It was quite cloudy here, but we did get a glimpse of it. The girls were just excited to go outside in the dark!

Here's what you should've seen...

Valentine's Morning

Here we are Valentine's Day morning complete with cards, flowers, stickers, candy and what you maybe can't see very well in this picture are the giant-sized balloons Steve bought for the girls. They dragged their balloons all over the house and had a grand time with them, but they are so huge, they will probably last until next Valentine's Day!

My favorite color is NOT pink

We just spent the morning at the doctor's office and Kendyl has pink eye. It seems like we just can not all get healthy at the same time. She started on Saturday with a cough again (we thought she was over it) followed by throwing up Sunday morning. Let's see, I don't think I have made it to all 3 hours of church for the last month! Yesterday I noticed some discharge from her left eye so I called the doctor, whom we saw this morning, and that brings us to our current status of pink eye. Would it be possible for me to hybernate until spring when cold and flu season is over?

Playing in the Snow

We went to Utah for Grandpa's funeral and it snowed every day we were there. The girls thought it was the greatest thing ever to find it snowing every morning. They had a great time playing in it while Mom wisely watched from inside the warm house!

Snowball Fight!

The girls just loved picking up snow and throwing it...in the air, at each other, at any innocent bystander, or not-so-innocent bystander, at the shed, at the snowman, etc., etc.

Kendyl targeting Uncle Paul.

Here she comes again!

Ready...

Aim...

Fire!

Uh, oh! Retaliation on Uncle Paul!

Uncle Paul running scared!

Once There Was a Snowman...

Snowman, Snowman!

Once there was a snowman...

Tall...

Tall...

Tall!
